Danish discount retailer Normal has officially opened its latest Irish store today at Northside Shopping Centre, marking another significant step in the brand’s rapid expansion across the country.

The so-called “viral shop” — famed on TikTok and Instagram for its maze-like layout and ever-changing product range — continues to build momentum in Ireland following the launch of its first store at Ilac Centre last November. That debut generated strong footfall in Dublin city centre, with shoppers drawn to its mix of international brands and fixed low pricing model.

Today’s North Dublin opening spans 464 square metres and will create approximately 25 full-time roles and 15 part-time positions, providing a welcome employment boost locally. The store follows Normal’s signature layout: a winding, treasure-hunt style floor plan designed to encourage browsing and discovery.

The retailer currently stocks around 5,500 permanent products and introduces more than 100 new items every week, a key factor behind its viral appeal. Shelves feature globally recognised household and beauty brands including L'Oréal, Maybelline, Nivea, Gillette, Colgate, Garnier, Nescafé, Oreo, Vanish and Finish, alongside trending international labels and social media favourites often unavailable elsewhere on the Irish high street.

The Dublin Northside opening forms part of a wider Irish rollout strategy. The company has confirmed that Cork will host the next major launch, with a store set to open at Queen's Old Castle, and additional locations planned nationwide throughout the year. Normal has said it intends to open three to five further Irish stores within the next six months, signalling confidence in the market despite ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

CEO Jakob Frølich Maarbjerg said the company has been encouraged by its reception in Ireland to date.

“Opening this store is an important next step for us, and we're excited to continue expanding across Ireland over the coming months,” he said.

He added: “Our ambition is to make shopping fun, surprising and affordable, we want to continue to offer Irish customers great brands at fixed low prices, with something new to discover every week.”

@normal_ireland Products you didn’t know you could get at NORMAL 👀 You walk in for one thing… and suddenly you’re leaving with a bag full of things you didn’t even know you needed. At NORMAL, there’s always something fun, random and totally unexpected waiting on the shelves. Because let’s be honest - the best finds are the ones you never planned to buy 😉 #treasurehunt #randomfinds #ireland #dublin #normalireland ♬ Funky Stylish Cool Fun - RoundnoteMusic

Founded in Denmark in 2013, Normal has grown at pace over the past decade and now operates more than 980 stores across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ireland. Its expansion into Ireland reflects a broader European growth strategy that has seen the chain enter multiple new markets in recent years.

With today’s Northside Shopping Centre launch, Normal strengthens its foothold in Dublin while signalling clear intent to scale rapidly beyond the capital. If early queues at previous openings are any indication, the latest addition is likely to draw significant interest from bargain hunters and curious shoppers alike.
