Heavy metal legends Metallica have joined forces with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) and the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) to encourage blood donation across the island of Ireland as part of the European leg of their M72 World Tour.
The initiative, supported by Metallica’s charitable foundation, All Within My Hands (AWMH), will coincide with the band’s highly anticipated performances at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on June 19 and June 21.
As part of the campaign, Metallica is calling on fans throughout Ireland, both North and South, to donate blood during the weeks surrounding the Dublin concerts. The partnership aims to help maintain critical blood supplies for hospitals during the busy summer period, when demand often rises and donor numbers can fall.
By donating blood, supporters can make a vital difference to the lives of trauma victims, cancer patients, new mothers, people living with blood disorders, and many others who rely on regular transfusions.
“It’s a fantastic and unique way for us to get the message to people about how important it is to give blood. Summer can be a challenging time to meet the increasing blood needs of hospitals, and we hope this collaboration with Metallica fans increases everybody’s blood flows,” said Sharon Ryan, Director of Donor Experience and Collections with the IBTS.
Donors of all blood types are urgently needed. A single blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, while the donation process takes approximately 90 minutes for first-time donors.
The Irish and Northern Irish Blood Transfusion Services are inviting both Metallica fans and members of the public to book an appointment and give blood during the campaign period.
Eligible donors can find more information, locate a clinic and schedule an appointment through the respective blood service websites in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
