AFC Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are in talks to buy shares in a cricket team, according to reports.

The famous actors purchased the football club in 2020, and have overseen back to back promotions which saw Wrexham return to the English Football League for the first time in 15 years.

The club which is currently managed by Phil Parkinson, currently plays in League 1, the third tier of the English football pyramid following those back to back promotions.

Wrexham’s squad also includes former Republic of Ireland international James McClean.

Reflecting on their achievements, the actors also said they were left “speechless” after watching Wrexham win promotion last year. More on this from Nova here.

Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney In Talks To Buy Cricket Club

Now, it would appear that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have entered talks to buy shares in Cardiff-based cricket side Welsh Fire, who play in The Hundred, a hundred-ball cricket tournament which was originally launched in 2021.

Speaking about this, the club’s chief executive Dan Cherry, has said that “contact has been made” with the Hollywood actors.

He said: “I’m not sure what level those conversations are at. All I know is that they’ve made contact and there’s some interest in the proposition”.

“really proud”

Earlier this month, Welsh Fire had began the process of securing private investment into the Hundred ahead of the fifth edition of the tournament next year.

A 51% stake is handed to the hosts of the eight teams of The Hundred Tournament, which they can also sell or keep.

The remaining 49% will also be sold by the England and Wales Cricket Board to private investors.

“We’re really proud of our Welsh heritage,” Mr Cherry said. “And we’ve seen the fantastic work that Ryan and Rob have done in engaging football fans in North Wales and building that brand globally”.

He also added: “We’re open minded about potential investment into Welsh Fire at the moment, and if Ryan and Rob are interested in having further conversations then it’s obviously an exciting proposition for us”.
