Horror author Stephen King picked Bob Dylan and Rolling Stones for his playlist but says he never liked Black Sabbath.
The statement was said during a Reddit AMA (Ask me Anything) King was doing to promote his new film ‘The Long Walk’.
The film is adapted from his 1979 novel set in a dystopian America, ruled by a totalitarian regime. In the book, a number of boys join a competition where they are tasked to walk at a pace of 3 miles per hour until there is only one left standing. The last walker is crowned the winner while boys who fall below pace are killed on the spot.
During the AMA, a user asked the iconic American author what songs would be on his playlist if he was walking in the contest.
Keeping in mind the 1979 publishing year, King replied: “Back then I would have picked ‘Get Together,’ by the Youngbloods, ‘Eve of Destruction,’ by Barry Maguire [sic], ‘Carol,’ by the Rolling Stones, ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues,’ by [Bob] Dylan, maybe ‘Summertime Blues,’ by Eddie Cochran, ‘Rock and Roll is Here to Stay,’ by Danny and the Juniors.”
“Now I’d load my playlist with AC/DC, Rancid, Metallica, Stones, Springsteen.”
The novelist then added that he would not include any Black Sabbath songs as he “never liked them.”
This comes about a month after Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne passed away aged 76.
‘The Long Walk’ is set to hit cinemas on the 12th of September. It will join a number of King adaptations that came out this year such as ‘The Life Of Chuck’ which is in cinemas currently, and ‘The Monkey’ which came out in February.
A new version of ‘The Running Man’ directed by Edgar Wright will also be released in November.
