A street named after the late singer David Bowie has been officially opened in Paris, marking what would have been his 77th birthday.
The Rue David Bowie was unveiled yesterday (January 9), located between two modern office buildings, and includes the headquarters of news publications L’Obs and Le Monde and opens onto Avenue Pierre-Mendes-France.
This street will also connect the future bridge linking the avenue to Boulevard de l’Hopital, near Austerlitz train station, and Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital.
News of the David Bowie inspired street was confirmed last week, after Paris’ Mayor and Bowie fan Jérome Coumet had first confirmed plans back in 2020, as Bowie had such “a strong link with the city of lights”.

This special tribute celebrates the first occasion that saw David Bowie took to a Paris stage back in 1965.
The show marked the late singers’ first performance outside the UK, as this unveiling celebrates his legacy as a musician, fashion trailblazer, as well as his impact on theoretical aura and popular culture.
Celebrating this launch, an inauguration party at Salle des Fetes was also held, which included a variety of Bowie associated photographs and paintings associated.
These items will be showcased at the Galerie Athéna until Sunday (January 14).
David Bowie passed away in 2016, following a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
