Taoiseach Reveals 250,000 Child Vaccinations Is Target Figure Before School Returns

The Taoiseach Micheál Martin has revealed that 250,000 children could potentially be vaccinated with their first dose before they return to school next month as the HSE portal will open soon for children aged 12-15 to register for a jab.

Teenagers aged 16 and 17 are also getting their vaccines appointments and walk-in test centres will be opened over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Micheál Martin said “it’s steady as she goes” and said that he is “cautiously positive” about the further relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.

There will be worries over the winter period..so we are looking at booster vaccines, there will be boosters in 2022 and 2023.”

He said “there is a sense that it is flattening” when asked about Delta and the rise of Covid-19 case

He said: “Steady as she goes more or less what we’ve said we’d do we’ve done.”

The Taoiseach was speaking at a vaccination centre in Swords, Co Dublin and indicated it could be September when restrictions on indoor events would be eased.
