A first teaser for the new Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has been released, revealing an unexpectedly apocalyptic twist on the long-running sitcom universe.
The trailer was unveiled during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York, with cast members Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie appearing on stage to introduce the series and confirm its release date.
The show will premiere on July 23 at 9pm ET on HBO Max, with a total of 10 episodes set to drop weekly.

The spin-off centres on comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman, who finds himself unexpectedly responsible for repairing reality after accidentally breaking a device created by Sheldon and Leonard.
The official logline reveals the consequences are far from minor, with Stuart triggering a multiverse catastrophe that threatens existence itself.
The story sees Stuart joined by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Brian Posehn), and physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), as they attempt to undo the damage and restore order.
Along the way, the group encounters alternate-universe versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory, with the synopsis warning that things quickly spiral out of control.
“As the title implies, things don’t go well,” the official description notes.

The series is created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, marking a major expansion of the Big Bang Theory universe, which has become one of television’s most commercially successful comedy franchises.
The original CBS sitcom ran for 12 seasons, while prequel series Young Sheldon concluded its seven-season run in 2024. A further spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, premiered on CBS in October 2024, continuing the franchise’s expansion across multiple timelines and formats.
Unlike the traditional multi-camera sitcom format associated with the original show, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe leans heavily into science fiction elements, blending comedy with a multiverse storyline that significantly raises the stakes.
The series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Kyle Newacheck directing the pilot episode.
Lorre, Penn, and Prady all serve as executive producers on the project.

The teaser’s tone suggests a shift away from the familiar workplace and apartment-based humour of the original series, instead placing its supporting character at the centre of a high-concept sci-fi crisis.
With its multiverse premise and returning fan-favourite characters, the show is already being positioned as one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise to date.
