Christopher Nolan’s latest film The Odyssey has made a huge impact at the box office, becoming the biggest opening weekend of the director’s career.

The epic adventure earned an estimated $264.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend, beating the previous record held by Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, which opened with $249 million globally.

The success makes The Odyssey the biggest global opening ever for a Nolan film outside of the Batman franchise.

The movie has also recorded the biggest opening for a live-action film in 2026 so far, and the third-biggest opening for any film this year, behind Toy Story 5 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
In North America, the film brought in $124.5 million, making it the third-highest opening of the year in the region and the biggest live-action debut of 2026 so far.

Based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and follows his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War.

The film marks another major box office success for Nolan, whose previous release Oppenheimer opened with $180 million worldwide before going on to earn almost $1 billion globally.
The Odyssey features an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong'o, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Jon Bernthal and so many more. It was released in cinemas July 17.
