Traffic was brought to a standstill as thousands of mostly far-right protesters gathered in Dublin today in opposition to vaccines, health orders, ongoing restrictions, and the Digital Covid Certificate.

The crowd walked from Custom House Quay and up Gardiner Street before making their way along O’Connell Street and then to Government Buildings today.

The maskless demonstrators held anti-vaccine signs and chanted “freedom” as they walked through the city to the Dáil. Some held placards with anti-lockdown messages, while others waved Irish flags & Irish county flags.

Among those spotted taking part in the protest was prominent anti-lockdown campaigner Dolores Cahill.

The demonstration was part of a global movement of  rallies and were publicised on social media pages associated with vaccine disinformation and conspiracy theories.

The protest comes as the Department of Health confirmed 1,345 new cases of Covid-19 here in Ireland. There are currently 105 people in hospital with the virus. Of those, 21 are in intensive care units.
