1966, The Beatles had their tenth consecutive UK No.1 single with Paperback Writer' The track is marked by the boosted bass guitar sound throughout, partly in response to John Lennon demanding to know why the bass on certain Wilson Pickett records was far more prominent than the bass on any Beatles records.
1975, During his 'Welcome To My Nightmare' tour in Vancouver, Canada, Alice Cooper fell from the stage and broke six ribs.
1990, Elton John was a happy bunny, FINALLY landing number one on the UK charts. It was his first UK solo No.1 single with 'Sacrifice’ (He did get there with Kiki Dee in the 70’s)
2010, 62-year-old Gregg Allman underwent a liver transplant operation in Florida. Allman said "I changed my ways years ago, but we can't turn back time. Every day is a gift." The gift lasted another 7 years. Gregg died in 2017.
2023, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl decided to take the train from London towards Somerset, before a surprise show at Glastonbury Festival. (Pic from the BBC)
2025, Mick Ralphs, guitarist of Mott The Hoople died
2025, Edge of U2, finally became an Irish citizen.
@virginmedianews It was a beautiful day for U2 guitarist David Howell Evans - better known as The Edge - who officially became an Irish citizen today. He took part in a ceremony in Killarney, where over 7,500 people are being granted citizenship across two days. #VMNews
