Two Metallica fans have been arrested and charged for climbing over part of the band's set in Perth, Australia last weekend.

The first show of Metallica's Australian tour took place last Saturday at Optus Stadium. At this show, two fans were seen to be climbing up the tower, which was attached to a platform near the centre of the stadium.

According to The West Australian, two men, a 20 and 23 year old were arrested and charged for trespassing and are due in court at a later date.

Last Saturday was the first time Metallica have performed in Australia since 2013. The band were due to return to Australia in 2019 for an Australian and New Zealand tour, however, they cancelled these plans due to frontman, James Hetfield's descision to go to rehab.

Drummer Lars Ulrich, spoke about their time as a band whilst Hetfield was in rehab on the official Metallica podcast. "What James went through at the tail end of ’19 into ’20 was something where it really felt like I – and the rest of the guys in the band – had to give him the space that he needed, had to really take a step back, and just suspend everything that was on the table," he said.

"We needed to do that for our friend and for our bandmate and partner, then, slowly, the pieces started coming back together in the spring of ’20, and then everything got side-swiped by the horrific [events] of Covid and the lockdown," Ulrich continued.

Metallica will return to Europe and the UK next summer. They are set to play two shows in Dublin's Aviva Stadium on June 19th and June 21st 2026. Tickets for both Dublin shows are currently sold out.
