Dublin shoppers have reason to celebrate: the Danish discount retail chain Normal has confirmed it will open its first Irish store at the Ilac Shopping Centre on 19 November at 8:30 am. The arrival of Normal — known for offering everyday essentials at fixed low prices — marks an exciting addition to Dublin’s retail scene.

Situated in the heart of the city on Henry Street, the Ilac Centre has been a central shopping hub since its opening in 1981. With entrances onto Henry Street, Moore Street and Parnell Street, the centre draws high footfall and is well positioned to host Normal’s unique offering. The chain describes itself as a hybrid between grocery and personal care, stocking categories including skincare, hair care, make-up, cleaning and oral-care essentials under one roof.
Normal operates on a “fixed low price” model, meaning shoppers won’t see rotating bargains or discounts — everything is already priced at the lowest tier. But one of its key draws is variety: the chain regularly rotates products on shelves and displays, encouraging customers to explore and “treasure hunt” among familiar and unexpected brands. Its stores are laid out in a maze-style pathway, guiding visitors through different product zones before reaching checkout.
Founded in 2013 in Silkeborg, Denmark, Normal has since grown into a Europe-wide retailer. As of 2025, the company operates in several countries including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal and Finland. Expanding into Ireland represents its next step into new territory.
Normal’s decision to locate in Ilac comes after a deal struck by centre owner Hammerson and demonstrates confidence in Dublin’s core retail environment. In promotional announcements, Ilac Shopping Centre shared their excitement, saying that Normal would bring fresh energy and affordable essentials to the centre.
Ahead of the launch, local shoppers have been eagerly anticipating the first Irish location. Many have expressed hope that Normal’s mix of quality essentials and low pricing will shake up the offerings available in Dublin’s city centre — especially for everyday hygiene, beauty and cleaning products.
As the countdown begins to 19 November, the buzz is already building. By opening in Dublin’s Ilac Centre, Normal will join a cluster of stores serving locals, tourists, and bargain hunters alike — offering a fresh new stop for routine shopping that’s both functional and fun.
