The Boss is streaming a video trailer as the first glance at “Western Stars”, a documentary film project that is a companion to his latest eponymous record.

This is Springsteen’s directorial debut and the doc sees Springsteen perform all 13 songs on the record. It’s also his first studio album in five years.

The project is backed up by a band as well as a full orchestra, who perform under the cathedral ceiling of Springsteen’s historic 100-year-old barn. As Antimusic observes “Western Stars” signals a departure for the singer/songwriter while still drawing inspiration from his roots.

The documentary movie focusses on the American West coupled with archival footage and Springsteen’s personal narration with songs to tell the story of Western Stars.

The music and the film explore themes of love and loss, loneliness and family and the unstoppable passage of time, Springsteen is set to premiere the project at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month. Check out the trailer below.
