At a recent show in New York as part of his Madison Square Garden residency, Billy Joel was joined on stage by Elvis Costello.

Joel was in the middle of his latest show at the venue as part of the residency, before Costello joined him on stage for a surprise performance of two tracks.

This performance which you can check out below, saw the pair share a live cover of Costello’s 1978 hit, ‘Pump It Up’, with Joel playing piano, and Costello on vocals.

The pair followed this up with a live duet of Joel’s 1982 hit, ‘Allentown’.

Check out footage of this below.

Having started this residency in 2014, Billy Joel announced that his final show at the New York venue will take place on 25 July next year, marking his 150th appearance at Madison Square Garden since the residency began.

Elvis Costello Confirms Vicar Street Shows

Speaking of next year, Elvis Costello confirmed a few weeks ago that he and Stevie Nieve will play four shows at Dublin’s Vicar Street next year.

The pair will perform at the venue on 27, 28, 30, September and October 1.

These shows form part of a UK and Ireland tour from the pair, which begins in 2024. More on this from Nova here.

This also comes after the pair had previously performed tracks which rarely featured on stage across 22 European Cities between August and October of this year.

On next year’s shows, Elvis Costello said this, “Remember that this is not just a concert, It is a communion of amorous spirits, an odyssey of pure, unadulterated elation”.
