After a lot of speculation and denials, Noel Gallagher did take to the stage to perform with Johnny Marr.

The pair played together during the encore of Marr’s concert at the O2 Brixton Academy, covering songs by The Smiths and Iggy Pop.

Rumours of Gallagher joining the former Smiths guitarist on stage at his gig in London started circulating earlier this week. When Johnny was asked about the rumours he acted very coy and tried his best to dismiss them as gossip.

After Marr had completed his outstanding set, he returned to the stage for an encore, joined by a familiar face.

Introducing him, Marr said: “I’d like to introduce someone who has been a friend of mine for 20 years. One of the greatest songwriters from this country. He’s a good man, I think he’s got a big future ahead of him. Mr Noel Gallagher.”

The duo jumped straight into a cover of Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust For Life’, followed by The Smiths ‘How Soon Is Now?’
