489 people have been killed and almost 1,000 people are still missing after Wednesday's catastrophic flood in Nepal and Tibet.
A wall of mud and rock collapsed into a Himalayan river sending the flash floods through towns and valleys.
At least 540 foreign nationals are currently missing, including two Irish citizens who have been named as 46-year-old Santosh Sahu and 18-year-old Spandan Sahu.
In a recent statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it "continues to closely monitor the situation following serious flooding in Nepal and, together with partners, is working to account for two Irish citizens visiting the area."
Authorities in Nepal said that the lake's reservoir had topped 2.5 million cubic metres of water, up from the estimated 1.5-2 million cubic metres recorded yesterday before overflowing into the Bhotekoshi River.
When the announcements were made, people ran to higher ground and rescue workers were asked to move to safer places with their equipment.
According to RTE, the risk of the lake bursting prompted all Chinese rescue personnel and vehicles to withdraw to a safe area and remain on standby. Rescue operations were later resumed after the risk posed by the upstream dammed lake was assessed as manageable, state broadcaster CCTV added.
An army officer said that the authorities in Nepal stopped rescue operations for 90 minutes but resumed later, reports have stated.
The Nepali military was attempting to reach around 100 people trapped inside a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower project, an army spokesman told AFP.
"Two helicopters have been dispatched but it is challenging because it is tough to even locate the entry points of the tunnel," he said.
350 people have been rescued from the tunnel, but efforts were ongoing to bring more than 100 people to safety that were trapped in the same area, the army officer said according to RTE.
The floods have caused major devastation, the floods tore through villages and valleys, destroyed power stations, bridges and roads.
