Monaco is set to become the backdrop for a high-stakes Hollywood heist, after Margot Robbie confirmed that the upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel will centre on a robbery at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The film, which is being developed by Warner Bros, will shift away from Danny Ocean and instead focus on his parents, revealing how the legendary conman’s family first built their reputation.
Robbie revealed the setting during a presentation of the studio’s upcoming slate at CinemaCon, teasing a stylish origin story set decades before the original franchise.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” Robbie said. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
The film will star Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, who are expected to play Danny Ocean’s parents, originally portrayed on screen by George Clooney as the smooth-talking leader of the modern-day crew in Ocean’s Eleven (2001).
Cooper is also attached to direct the project, after previous filmmakers Lee Isaac Chung and Jay Roach both exited the production. Robbie is producing through her company LuckyChap, while the screenplay is being developed by Carrie Solomon.

The prequel is currently expected to begin filming later this year, with a planned cinema release date of 25 June 2027.
Alongside the new story, Warner Bros confirmed that the wider Ocean’s franchise is also being expanded in a separate project, with George Clooney set to return alongside Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle in another sequel featuring the original ensemble cast as older versions of their characters.

The studio’s CinemaCon presentation also highlighted a packed upcoming slate, including titles such as A Minecraft Movie 2, Practical Magic 2, Supergirl, and Dune: Part Three, signalling a busy period ahead for one of Hollywood’s major studios.
For Warner Bros, the announcement of the Ocean’s prequel was one of the standout moments of the event, combining major star power with a fresh take on a long-running franchise that first began with the 2001 reboot of the classic 1960s films.
With Robbie and Cooper both heavily involved as leads and creatives, the project is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile franchise expansions currently in development at the studio.
