A male teenager has been arrested following an attempted hijacking incident in Co Kildare.
The incident took place on Saturday night (August 22) in Clane.
In a recent interview on KFM, Garda Brian Carroll described the incident. He explained that the teenager approached the car with a male and female inside and demanded their car keys.
When they refused, the teenager produced a sharp object and threatened them.
Carroll stated that one of the occupants of the car tried to take the weapon from the teenager and was injured in the process, the teenager then fled the scene.
Gardaí tracked down the teenager and arrested him. Carroll concluded the interview with urging anyone with information to come forward and to contact Clane Garda Station on 045 868 262.
“Gardaí attended the scene following an attempted hijacking of car in Clane County Kildare on Saturday, August 22 last that occurred at approximately 11.40pm. A male aged in his late teens was later arrested by Gardaí in connection with this incident," a garda spokesperson said according to KildareLive.
“He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Garda National Youth Diversion Bureau," the spokesperson concluded.
