The parents of late singer Amy Winehouse have accepted the Brit Billion award on behalf of their late daughter.

They received this award from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) to celebrate Winehouse reaching one billion streams in the UK.

The BPI are the representative voice for the UK’s world-leading record labels and music companies.

“wonderful”

Releasing a joint statement when accepting the BRIT Billion Award on behalf of their late daughter Amy, Mitch and Janis Winehouse said this.

“We of course wish that Amy was here today accepting this award in person, but it’s amazing that she is still winning awards for her incredible talent and achievements,” they said.

“It’s wonderful that her music is being discovered by new audiences of young people who love it just as much as her contemporaries. We are so proud of Amy. Thank you”.

This also comes as the much anticipated Sam Taylor-Johnson directed movie ‘Back To Black’ starring Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse was released to cinema screens last month.

British actor Jack O’Connell also starred as the late singer’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil. More on this here.

It was also confirmed that Amy Winehouse’s biopic would also feature music from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

Amy Winehouse’ much loved song ‘Back To Black’ from her 2007 Grammy Award album of the same name, is her most streamed track in the UK, having been streamed over 150 million times.

It peaked at number eight in the Official Singles Chart, certified platinum twice in the UK.
