Billy Joel delivered a surprise live performance at one of his own tribute act shows.
The singer stepped out onto stage as part of a 30th birthday celebration for Wellington, Florida. Footage of this was shared via TikTok, showing Joel taking to the stage, leaving those who attended the gig, stunned.
This show saw Joel, who wore a hat and sleeveless puffer jacket, as part of his low key appearance, treated fans to a range of hits, including We Didn't Start The Fire, and Big Shot. Joel himself, had lived in Florida for 10 years, having moved there from his sprawling estates in New York to be closest to his youngest children.
This surprise performance marks the first live on-stage appearance from Joel since he was forced to cancel all of his shows following his Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus diagnosis last Summer.
This illness is an uncommon and poorly understood medical condition, which most often affects people who are over the age of 60.
At the time, Joel released this statement.
"This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance", it read. "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period", he wrote.
"Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritising his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage", the statement added.
"I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding".
Last July, Billy Joel's wife Alexis Roderick insisted that she was confident that her husband would return to the stage at some stage in 2026.
“This Father’s Day is extra special. We are always grateful and thankful but this year really reminded us how lucky we are to have you. We are so blessed to have such a strong, determined man in our lives", Alexis wrote.
Joel also added that he was "feeling good" following his diagnosis.
"It’s not fixed, it’s still being worked on", Joel said on Bill Maher's Club Random Podcast. "I feel fine, my balance sucks. It’s like being on a boat".
