A teenage girl has died off Burrow Beach in Dublin.

Gardaí confirmed they assisted the Coast Guard in a search operation Sunday evening near Howth after the alarm was raised.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, a spokesperson said: “Gardaí assisted the Coast Guard in a search operation at Howth Co Dublin this evening Sunday 24th May 2026."

“The body of a female juvenile teen was removed from the water at Burrow Beach by the Coast Guard."

“The body has been removed from the scene. No further information is available at this time.”

Burrow Beach, located close to Sutton village, is a popular swimming and bathing spot on the north side of Howth.

The incident happened during one of the warmest days of the year, with temperatures reaching 24.9C at Phoenix Park, making it the hottest May day recorded since 2010.

It is understood the girl’s death is being treated as a tragic incident and that no foul play is suspected.
