The owners of the former home of Sinead O'Connor are to pay tribute to the the late singer with a special commemorative plaque.
O'Connor who passed away in 2023, had previously sold the house, located on Strand Road, Bray, Co Wicklow for €1.04million in November 2021. The house was later sold to owners, Jane Hughes and David Lynch, after the previous owner, Rachel Carthy was unable to convert the proper into five apartments due to planning setbacks.
A few months later, new owners revealed major plans for the property, including the plaque in honour of Sinead O'Connor.
Other works include a new 236 sqft bar, gym, sauna. They also said that the floor space of the house will be extended to 4,703sqft.
Wicklow County Council, who granted planning permission of this project, have said that the wording of the plaque will read: 'Sinead O'Connor, musician, activist 1966 – 2023 lived here from 2007 to 2021'.
Planning permission was granted, despite objections from neighbour, Ceceline Power, who opposed to the couple building an orangery sunroom. On Power's behalf, RKAD Architects said that their client objected as it would block two of the existing windows on the property's southern gable.
When the council asked for Power's concerns to be addressed, a newly revised plan for the extension was submitted.
Later on, the council gave the project the go ahead, saying the development "would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or of property in the vicinity and would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience".
Sinead O'Connor, who died of 'natural causes' after being found dead at her home in London aged 56, is renowned for his 1990s hit, 'Nothing Compares 2 U'.
Last Summer, a close friend of the late singer, Don Baker said that O'Connor was working on a new Blues album before her death.
“One day in the car with Sinead I put on a CD of stuff I was working on and that was one of them. I had called it Kings", Don Baker said.
The musician continued: “She said, ‘I’d f**kin’ love to record that.’ I obviously told her I’d love her to record it. So we later recorded it for the album, My Songs My Friends".
“She kept calling the song Cinderella because there’s a line in it that goes, ‘Cinderella was a junkie and full of pain, ain’t that the truth we’re all the same". More on this from Nova here.
