Driver Travelling At 149Km/h In 100Km Zone One Of 3,140 Caught Speeding Over Weekend

A motorist travelling at just below 150km/h in a 100km/h zone was among 3,140 people who were caught speeding over the bank holiday weekend.

This comes after a roads policing operation began last Thursday, and it has since been revealed that more than 3,000 people were caught speeding, including a driver who was found to be driving at 149km/h in a 100km//h zone along the N7 at Brownsbarn in Dublin.

Another driver was found to speeding at 120km/h in a 80km/h zone on the R458 at Caherpeak East in Kilcolgan in Co Galway, while another motorist was clocked driving at 102km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R138 at Dernaglug, Doohamlet in Co Monaghan.

Since the roads policing operation began last Thursday, more than 340 people were found to be holding a mobile phone while driving or not wearing a seatbelt.

Three people were also killed in separate road accidents over the weekend, which means that 72 people have now been killed on Irish roads so far in 2026.

In other news, a cyclist aged in his 50s suffered serious injuries after a collision with a car in Cabra yesterday evening.

The cyclist, aged 50 was taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries, after being seriously injured in a collision with took place on Faussagh Avenue in Cabra at approximately 7.40pm on Monday evening.
