A Dublin man is due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to a series of offences arising from a violent attack in Co Wicklow that allegedly took place in front of the victim's young child.
Garry Hedderman (40), of Craigmore Crescent, Tallaght, appeared before Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court, where he pleaded guilty to assault causing harm, violent disorder and producing a knife with intent to inflict serious injury, the Irish Independent reports.
The charges relate to an incident on July 10, 2025, when Hedderman admitted assaulting Jason Douglas at St Bridget's Terrace, Arklow.
He also admitted taking part, along with other co-accused, in violent disorder by engaging in conduct that would have caused people present to fear for their safety.
The court heard that it will be alleged during sentencing that Hedderman and several other men travelled from the Tallaght area to Arklow in a van before pulling up behind the injured party's home.
It will be alleged they then chased the complainant across a road while armed with weapons, despite him being accompanied by his young child.
The court further heard it will be alleged that the group assaulted the man as his child pleaded with them to stop.
“Leave my daddy alone,” the child is alleged to have shouted during the attack.
During the court hearing, senior counsel Barry White, appearing for Hedderman, said his client was anxious to have the case dealt with but requested a governor's report, noting that Hedderman has remained on remand since his arrest.
Judge Sinéad Ní Chúlacháin adjourned the matter for sentencing on Tuesday, June 30.
