Thanks to our very own dynamic duo PJ and Jim, a Dublin woman Deirdre Barry was able to get down on one knee and propose to her long term partner Colum Rattigan.

Ms Barry won an engagement ring worth €5,000 from Martin Gear’s Jewellers on Mary Street thanks to the ‘Get Your Finger out for PJ and Jim’ competition here on Radio Nova.

Deirdre used the ring to propose to her partner of 19 years Colum Rattigan. It has been a very busy few weeks for the couple, having welcomed baby daughter Sophie just four weeks earlier.

What is so significant about the date (February 29), is that it forms part of a special tradition, where it’s said that every four years on February 29, women are permitted to propose to their partners.

In front of the Nova mics, Deirdre proposed to Colum yesterday (February 29), and he said yes. Congrats to the happy couple!

Deirdre and Colum’s love story, which began when they first met at 19 years of age in Tesco, won the hearts of PJ and Jim, in a competition which transformed from a whimsical challenge on the show, into a sea of romance and excitement.

This wonderful moment was also shared on our own Instagram account. Check it out here.
