Duran Duran have insisted they will not play Glastonbury unless they are given a headline slot at the Worth Farm event.
The band will not set foot on the stage unless they are given the status they feel they deserve. They still have a few items left on the bucket list, including a hologram show in the style of ABBA Voyage, and a residency at Las Vegas' Sphere.
The band's frontman, Simon Le Bon confirmed this in a recent interview with The Sunday Times Culture magazine.
“I’d love to do one [hologram show]. But I’d also like to do the Sphere in Las Vegas", he began.
When asked about Glastonbury, Le Bon stated this: “Well, we want to - but not in a disco tent at 3pm, which is what we were offered. We want the right slot ... We shouldn’t be below anybody on the bill. So, we’ll hold out because we’re a headline act - that’s all there is to it".
The 80s music legends, who have sold more than 100 million records, still believe that their exploits have earned them a place at the top of the Glastonbury stage.
Prior to this, Duran Duran had promised to bring Nile Rodgers and Mark Ronson onto the stage if they ever performed at Glastonbury.
“I want to play Glastonbury. I don't want to go as a punter, but I want Duran Duran to get the right slot. Anyway, that's the conversation that we shouldn't really have on the air. I'd love to do it. I'd like a night-time slot, to be honest with you, and it's got to be on the Pyramid Stage", Le Bon said in 2023.
Back in November, the band had even considered the idea of releasing a biopic about their history.
But that idea seems to be placed on the shelf for the moment, if what bassist Jon Taylor said in a recent interview is anything to go by. Find out what he said here.
