Despite the harsh criticism the film received from movie reviewers, Freddie Mercury’s sister, Kashmira, claims she always knew that the film would be a huge hit from the outset. Speaking to the Nottingham Post she said the sucess at the bnox office came as no surprise:
“I wasn’t too surprised by the success of the movie, because the subjects of the movie are Freddie Mercury, together with Queen and their music. And that will always be a formula for success.”
Kashmira did admit that the movie’s portrayal of both herself as well as her parents wasn’t completely accurate, but said she is a big fan of the biopic:
“I thought it was very tastefully done. I thought Freddie was portrayed accurately in most parts, with his character and mannerisms.”
Queen video director Rudi Dolezal previously hinted that a follow-up movie is on the cards.
When Kashmira was asked if she was aware of anything, she replied: “I haven’t heard from the management about a sequel,” and finished off with an inconclusive, “Only time will tell”.
