Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed once more, with Take-Two Interactive confirming the highly anticipated title will now launch on November 19, 2026. The move marks another six-month pushback from its previous release date of May 2026, which itself followed an earlier delay from the originally planned Holiday 2025 window.

Speaking about the decision, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the studio wants to ensure the game meets the highest standards before release. “When we set a date, we really do believe in it. If a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time. And that’s exactly what happened,” he said. “We feel really good about this release date. It’s in the same fiscal year, it happens to be a great release window, and naturally we’re really supportive of Rockstar’s approach.”

Zelnick explained that despite the long wait, Rockstar and Take-Two wanted to give players clarity. “What we want to do is give consumers as much certainty as possible,” he said. “It’s not that far in advance if you look at when you need to deliver a game to get it out. We also have to start marketing activities in a significant amount of time ahead of release. And again, we feel quite good about this date.”

Fans have been waiting for more than a decade since Grand Theft Auto V first released in 2013, and the hype surrounding its successor has only grown. The game’s first trailer, which dropped in late 2023, became one of the most-watched gaming videos of all time — confirming expectations for a huge open-world experience set in a fictionalised version of Vice City.

While some fans have reacted with frustration over yet another delay, others have taken a more patient approach, pointing out Rockstar’s history of taking its time to perfect its games. Previous titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 also faced long development cycles but were widely praised on release for their polish and attention to detail.

In the meantime, Rockstar will continue to support Grand Theft Auto Online, which remains one of the most successful live-service games ever made. Zelnick said the online component continues to perform above expectations, with “terrific results” and “strong membership growth” in its GTA+ subscription service.

The continued success of GTA Online helps explain why Take-Two is in no rush to release GTA VI before it’s ready. With millions of players still active and consistent revenue coming in, the publisher has the luxury of time to ensure the next instalment lives up to its legacy.

For players, the new release date means another long wait — but also a greater chance that GTA VI will arrive as the kind of fully realised, generation-defining title that fans have come to expect from Rockstar.

As Zelnick put it, “When we set a date, we really do believe in it.”
