Harrison Ford has gone viral after delivering an emotional and deeply political commencement speech to graduates at Arizona State University, urging young people to take action in a world he admitted his own generation has badly damaged.
The Hollywood legend addressed the class of 2026 with a passionate speech centred on climate change, social justice and leadership, telling students they have the power to create meaningful change.
“Humanity is a part of nature, not above it. We need cultural change. We need to extend social justice. We need to respect and elevate the indigenous people that are being marginalized, and in many cases, killed in cold blood. The world you’re stepping into, the world my generation left you, is a real mess,” Ford said.

The Indiana Jones and Star Wars star encouraged graduates to use their talents and ambitions for a greater purpose rather than standing by passively.
“Find a place for yourself. Whatever talent or ambition you have, find some way to put it to work.”
Ford also challenged the graduates to embrace opportunities when they arise and fully commit themselves to life.
“If you harness your power, if you find your leadership, your issues, your voice, the world will not be able to ignore you,” he said.
“When opportunity presents, recognize it. This is your time. Own it. Enjoy every second of it. What could be worse than getting to the end of your life and realizing that you haven’t fully lived it?”
The speech has struck a chord online, with many praising Ford’s honesty and willingness to directly address environmental destruction and inequality instead of delivering a safer, more conventional celebrity speech.
The actor has become increasingly outspoken in recent years about environmental issues and Indigenous rights, often using public appearances to advocate for climate action and conservation.
Fans have also noticed a much more vulnerable and emotionally open side to Ford during the promotion of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series Shrinking.
In the comedy-drama, Ford plays Dr Paul Rhoades, a therapist living with Parkinson’s disease, in what many critics have described as one of the most emotionally raw performances of his career.
While promoting the show, Ford has spoken candidly about ageing, grief, illness and mortality — subjects he rarely discussed publicly during his decades as one of Hollywood’s most famously private stars.
He has openly reflected on the emotional impact of getting older and the importance of human connection, with many interviews around Shrinking revealing a softer and more introspective side to the actor known globally for playing tough action heroes like Indiana Jones and Han Solo.
Ford previously admitted he was drawn to Shrinking because of its honesty surrounding loneliness, vulnerability and illness, themes that have become central to the show’s success and his acclaimed performance.
For many fans, that same emotional honesty was visible throughout his Arizona State speech, which balanced blunt criticism of the modern world with a hopeful message urging younger generations to fight for change.
Rather than offering simple optimism, Ford’s address focused on responsibility, action and refusing to waste the opportunities life presents.
The speech quickly spread across social media, where many viewers described it as one of the most powerful and unexpectedly emotional celebrity commencement speeches in recent years.
