Tom Hardy could be set to return to one of television's biggest crime dramas after reports claimed Paramount+ bosses are trying to persuade the actor to remain with MobLand following an overwhelming backlash from fans.

According to reports, Hardy had planned to walk away from the series after frequent disagreements with directors over delays to filming the show's third season.

The actor, who stars as ruthless fixer Harry Da Souza, was reportedly ready to leave the production before streaming executives reconsidered their position.

A source claimed the strength of the public reaction has forced a dramatic rethink.

"Tom is a star, the audience love him but the bosses underestimated that. They didn't realise the backlash they would get. It has been extraordinary, the vibe they are getting is that there is no MobLand if there is no Tom.

"The whole narrative has changed from them believing they can carry on without him to a huge crisis. It has taken this for them to realise how loved Tom is by the viewers."

The reports highlight just how important Hardy has become to MobLand, despite the series only debuting in 2025. Created by Ronan Bennett, with Guy Ritchie directing several episodes and serving as an executive producer, the gritty gangster drama quickly became one of Paramount+'s standout originals.

The series follows two powerful London crime families locked in a violent struggle for control of the capital's criminal underworld.

At the centre of the conflict is Hardy's character, Harry Da Souza, a calm, calculating fixer who is tasked with cleaning up problems before they spiral out of control.

Harry's ability to navigate the dangerous loyalties between rival gangs has made him one of the show's defining characters, with many viewers crediting Hardy's performance as the main reason they tuned in each week.

Hardy also leads an all-star cast that includes Pierce Brosnan as patriarch Conrad Harrigan, Helen Mirren as the formidable Maeve Harrigan, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Geoff Bell and Anson Boon.

The show proved to be one of Paramount+'s biggest original series launches, attracting millions of viewers worldwide and topping streaming charts in multiple countries during its debut in 2025.

It quickly became one of the platform's flagship dramas and was renewed after its strong performance, cementing its place among the streaming service's most valuable franchises.

For many fans, however, Hardy has become the face of MobLand.

While the ensemble cast has drawn praise across the board, Harry Da Souza's cool-headed approach, explosive action scenes and complex morality have made him one of the show's breakout characters. As rumours of his departure spread, many viewers argued online that the series would struggle to continue without its central fixer.

That reaction is perhaps unsurprising given Hardy's long history of elevating crime dramas and action franchises.

The Oscar-nominated actor first rose to international prominence in films including Bronson, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Dark Knight Rises, where he delivered a memorable performance as Batman villain Bane.

He later became synonymous with another major franchise by playing Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, widely regarded as one of the greatest action films ever made.

Hardy also fronted Sony's hugely successful Venom trilogy as journalist Eddie Brock and his alien alter ego, helping the superhero films earn more than $1.8 billion at the global box office.

On television, Hardy has also earned acclaim for Taboo, the dark historical drama he co-created with his father Chips Hardy and Steven Knight. Although fans have waited years for a second season, the series further established him as one of Britain's most bankable leading men.

That reputation has naturally carried over to MobLand, where Hardy combines his trademark physical intensity with a more restrained performance as a man constantly balancing violence with diplomacy.

Many viewers have praised the character as one of his strongest television roles to date, making reports of his possible exit all the more surprising.

Neither Hardy nor Paramount+ has publicly commented on the latest reports surrounding his future.
