In week which marks 7 years since his passing, the iconic album ‘Aladdin Sane’ released by the late David Bowie, is to get a special 50th anniversary reissue.

Arriving in April 1973, it was Bowie’s sixth studio album and was written following his post-Ziggy stardom, with the album serving as a follow up to ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’ which arrived in 1972.

Produced by Ken Scott alongside Bowie himself, the album was recorded at New York’s RCA Studios, and Trident Studios in London.

Most of the tracks featured on the ‘Aladdin Sane’ album were recorded, while he was on the road stateside.

It was also the last album to feature the line up of Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick Ronson (guitar, piano, backing vocals), Mick ‘Woody’ Woodmansey (drums), along with jazz pianist Mike Garson.

Arriving on April 14 to coincide with the anniversary, the reissued ‘Aladdin Sane’ will be released as a half speed mastered LP, alongside a picture disc LP pressed on the same master.

You can pre order it here.

This half speed record was produced by John Webber at the AIR Studios, London, with a press release also adding that the new pressing was “cut on a customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer”.

On top of this, a 4k remastered version of the music video ‘The Jean Genie’ was also shared, which you can check out below.

David Bowie sadly passed away from cancer on 10 January 2016 aged 69.

Speaking on her husband’s death, model and businesswoman Iman said that grieving for her beloved David was “too much”.

“It was too much. Too much”, she said. “We lived a very private life and suddenly it felt like there was a target on mine and my daughter’s head…”.
