Gardaí are currently investigating an incident whereby an Irish Rail security personnel was the victim of assault and false imprisonment.

The incident occurred at approximately 5am on December 5th, at Kilbricken, Mountrath, Co. Laois.

The victim is a member of the security personnel employed at the Irish Rail compound in the area.

The attack took place when the victim, who arrived for work, was approached by a number of men who proceeded to assault him.

They then locked the man into the boot of his car before making their escape.

Gardaí believe there were at least three male assailants to the crime, and trust the attackers made off in a car as the compound is situated in a rural area.
