The first trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter movie has been released, with Jason Momoa and 50 Cent both set to star in the adaptation.
Inspired by the hit video game series, Street Fighter is set to launch next year and will reboot the franchise after previous movie adaptations were critical and commercial flops.
“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER,” reads the official description.
Jason Momoa is a veteran of action cinema, having risen to international fame through roles such as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and the titular character in Aquaman. Known for his imposing physical presence and muscular build, Momoa has built a reputation for performing many of his own stunts, from high-speed chases to complex fight sequences. His filmography includes roles in Conan the Barbarian, Braven, Fast and Furious and Baywatch, where he has frequently showcased his combat and athletic abilities. While he has no formal boxing or MMA background, Momoa trains extensively for his roles and is experienced in choreographed fight scenes, making him well-suited for a physically demanding project like Street Fighter.
50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, is primarily known as a rapper but has cultivated a notable acting career with appearances in films such as Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Den of Thieves, and Before I Self Destruct. While 50 Cent does not have formal training as a martial artist, he has experience performing fight sequences for the screen and has previously portrayed characters involved in action and combat scenarios. Known for his business acumen and musical career, including chart-topping albums and hit singles, 50 Cent’s combination of charisma and toughness translates well into on-screen physical roles.
Both Momoa and 50 Cent bring a strong physicality to the project, though Momoa is particularly known for doing many of his own stunts, often taking on intense, practical action sequences rather than relying solely on stunt doubles. 50 Cent has also performed stunts for his roles but typically with a heavier reliance on stunt coordination. Together, their presence signals a reboot of Street Fighter that will emphasize dynamic fight choreography and cinematic spectacle, combining Momoa’s screen combat experience with 50 Cent’s commanding performance style.
As anticipation builds, fans of the franchise will be watching closely to see how these two stars bring the iconic fighters Ryu and Ken Masters to life, while navigating the deadly tournament and conspiracy promised in the official trailer.
