Courtney Love is hard at work producing the new Kurt Cobain film, she is “leading the charge,” with the movie and expects to begin in the next 12 months.
The hunt is underway for the leading man, although Love is heavily involved in the film’s production, she states that she will not be involved with all aspects, such as casting, which she will leave for others to decide.
In an interview with The Philippine Inquirer, the Nirvana frontman’s widow discussed casting for the upcoming biopic of her late husband. “I don’t want to be the person who makes that decision,” she admitted. “Let’s leave that to the agents; I have great agents now.”
The rumour mill is spinning with potential actors that could be playing Kurt. Actors that have been mentioned as possible onscreen incarnations of Cobain are, Ryan Gosling (apparently Courtney’s top choice), Robert Pattinson, Ewan McGregor and Jared Leto. Leto has already paid tribute to the troubled singer in a 2011 video, see below.
Commenting on the type of actors being considered for the biopic, love says: “I won’t name names because I don’t want to jinx it for anyone but these are 25-year-olds who are blonde, gorgeous and the new Brad Pitts. There’s a ton of those. Some are really good actors, not just pretty faces.”
Love won’t be the only one with an important input in to the film, she stated that Kurt’s former Nirvana band members will be involved. “I do have a say in it. So do Frances, and Krist (Novoselic) and Dave (Grohl), for that matter, if it touches on Nirvana — and it will. I am leading the charge because it’s time to do this,” she says.
In the same interview with The Philippine Inquirer, she described her relationship with fellow rockers Michael Stipe and Bono. “I got presents from my mentors, Bono and Michael Stipe, yesterday. I have a heavy mentor-near disciple relationship with Bono and Michael Stipe. Love also talked about a recent gift Bono had sent her, saying, “I looked at the year on the bottle of wine from Bono. It was my birth year; I couldn’t believe it. I was like, holy moly.”
As for who will be playing the part of Courtney Love, take a guess at the one name that has cropped up so far. I’ll give you a few clues, she’s blond, she’s talented and i’m sure Courtney wouldn’t mind being portrayed by her in a biopic.
