Level 5 restrictions are set to be extended until at least March 5th with a series of new restrictions.
There is still a high number of patients in hospitals with huge pressure on ICU capacity.
It is believed that a ban on non-essential construction work will also continue until March 5th.
A number of strict new measures aimed at preventing non-essential travel will also be introduced.
Under plans agreed by the Cabinet Committee on Covid-19 passengers arriving into Ireland without negative Covid-19 tests will be held in quarantine for up to two weeks.
