A 41-year-old man accused of setting fire to the entrance of a Dublin mosque and endangering the lives of people inside has been sent forward for trial.
Saeid Khosroabadi, of Seville Place, Dublin 1, appeared before Cloverhill District Court in connection with a fire at the Faizan E Madinah Mosque on Talbot Street on 29 June.
The blaze broke out shortly before 3.30pm, sending thick smoke into the surrounding street and prompting a major emergency response involving more than 20 firefighters, four fire engines and gardaí.
Several people, including children, were inside the mosque when the fire started. The premises were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.
Mr Khosroabadi, an Iranian national, was initially charged with arson and causing criminal damage in connection with the incident. He was refused bail on 1 July and remanded in custody.
An additional charge of endangering life was brought against him last week by Garda Shane Costello, as the investigation into the fire continued.
At his latest court appearance, the Director of Public Prosecutions directed that Mr Khosroabadi face trial on indictment, and the State served him with a book of evidence.
Judge Alan Mitchell subsequently made a return-for-trial order, sending the accused to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The case is due to come before the Circuit Court for mention on 8 October. Mr Khosroabadi was further remanded in custody.
