Matt Damon has praised Irish rock band Inhaler, calling them “epic” and “fantastic”.

The actor revealed this when asked about his favourite band, where he mentioned Inhaler, who are fronted by lead singer Elijah Hewson, the son of U2 frontman Bono.

Last month Inhaler announced a huge show at Dublin’s 3Arena, as part of their ‘Cuts & Bruises’ Tour. The band will take to the stage at the Dublin venue in November.

Inhaler released their second album of the same name earlier this year, which reached number 2 in the UK Album Chart, and top spot in the Irish Chart.

“Do you know who’s great?”

In a fresh interview, Matt Damon was asked about his favourite music, and this was his response.

“Do you know who’s great? Have you guys been listening to Inhaler? Those guys are epic. So fantastic. They’re so great”, Damon said.

Matt Damon also recalled a story about Bono, and how Hewson disregarded his advice about lyrics on one of their most loved songs.

“I actually talked to Bono about it a couple of years ago and he had me laughing,” he said.

“There’s a song that they wrote called ‘Ice Cream Sundae’ and the first line his son writes, ‘I’m in the pursuit of happiness/ I’m gonna get it/ I’m gonna get it’ And then the second verse goes, ‘I’m in the pursuit of happiness/ I’m gonna get it/ I’m gonna get it’”.

Damon also added, “And Bono goes, ‘You can’t start the second verse with the same line as the same first verse,’ and his son was like, ‘Yeah, OK Dad’”.

“you can’t write scenes too long”

Elaborating further, Matt Damon related this story to his own experience as a writer.

“I remember when we [Damon and Ben Affleck] wrote Good Will Hunting”, he explained. “I remember everyone said, ‘These scenes are too long, you can’t write scenes this long’ and we were like, ‘Yeah OK’”.

“It’s that thing when the next generation comes in and goes ‘No, we are doing it this way’”, he added.

Matt Damon is starring in the new film Oppenheimer, which will hit the cinema screens on July 21, and will also star Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Jack Quaid.
