The American sports channel ESPN is famous for making clever ads, the latest stars Metallica trying to fit into a typical office workplace.

The ad is for SportsCenter, one of the most popular shows on ESPN. It’s the latest spoof set in an office setting, involving unlikely new employees.

Lars Ulrich talked to Rolling stones about the video:

“Sometimes it can be quite freeing to put yourself at the mercy of others. ESPN’s commercials have a tendency to be hilarious. We were like, ‘That sounds like a good time.’ The whole thing had an overriding impulsivity to it.”

Lars also revealed there were other outtakes, but kept closed-lipped as to what they might involve. The drummer did speculate that the outtakes might become future spoof commercials.

In the ESPN clip, Metallica choose the song ‘Enter Sandman’ to accompany a golf promo. Lars spoke about working with the SportsCenter staff:

“All these anchors and sports personalities are just so incredibly good at the deadpan element. It’s just really fun to be around that environment, because there’s a high degree of impulsivity and they don’t take themselves very seriously.”

There has been a long list of SportsCenter satirical commercials. The fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt, recently starred in one with the caption ‘Usain Bolt has a slow day at work’.

Although the most famous spoof commercial starred Terry Tate. A former American Football player, 18 stone Tate was known for his ferocious tackling ability, his nickname was ‘The Pain Train’.

Metallica are coming off their headline slot of Glastonbury and finishing their tour. Check their twitter @Metallica for plenty of live videos and pictures from the European tour.
