Shane MacGowan’s Crock of Gold film is to be screen at New York’s IFC Centre, as part of a “special birthday tribute night” to the Pogues singer.

The IFC Centre organisers will show the film, in honour of the Shane MacGowan, to mark what would have been the late singer’s 66th birthday on Christmas Day.

“On the occasion of what would have been MacGowan’s 66th birthday, IFC Center is proud to finally bring New Yorkers a big-screen homage to this larger-than-life talent taken from us too soon”, their website says.

Tickets are available from $18, and are available on the IFC website.

Directed by Julien Temple, ‘Crock of Gold – A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan’, looks at the chaotic life of the singer, from growing up in Ireland, to embracing the growing punk music scene across London.

Crock of Gold was played across theatres around the US, following its release in 2020. However, it was unable to be shown in New York, with cinemas being shut down due to the pandemic.

“a fan, pure and simple” – Nick Cave Pays Tribute To Shane MacGowan

Paying tribute to Shane MacGowan, singer Nick Cave penned an obituary in honour of the Pogues frontman.

The obituary saw Cave pay homage to Shane as a songwriter, as well as describing his voice as “a perfect vehicle for his chaotic, poetic soul”.

He also added, “He just walked up to the mic and sang A Pair of Brown Eyes with his hands shoved in his pockets, this gorgeous, racked voice coming out of him like he was a cypher for the angels. It was a rare privilege to witness something like that”.
