The mood was electric in Dublin ahead of the Steelers’ big clash with the Vikings — but on Friday night, backup quarterback Skylar Thompson found himself at the centre of an unexpected incident. Thompson was reportedly “jumped and robbed” late that night in the Dame Street area, only hours before the Pittsburgh Steelers’ historic regular-season game in Ireland.

Though currently on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and not set to play, Thompson sustained minor injuries in the assault and was briefly treated in hospital before rejoining his team in Dublin.
The Steelers have confirmed the incident, emphasising they are working with NFL security to learn more. A team spokesman said, “We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.” Meanwhile, the NFL Players Association expressed relief that Thompson is okay: “We are relieved to know that he is okay… our priority is the health and safety of our player members—especially as we continue to work on player protections and well-being while playing international games…”
Local Gardaí (Irish police) confirmed they are aware of an incident involving a man in his 20s in the Dame Street area, though details remain sketchy.
Despite the ordeal, Thompson was in attendance at the historic match, where the Steelers edged out the Vikings 24-21 in front of a record crowd.
Thompson, 28, is in his first season with the Steelers after having played with the Miami Dolphins, and though sidelined by injury, he continues to travel and support the team.
