A collection of unreleased Oasis audio archives has been withdrawn from an auction following legal action by the band.
Littleton Auctions in the UK had planned to sell the material, which featured 63 live performances, soundchecks, and over 100 hours of 1990s rehearsal tapes from Noel and Liam Gallagher.
The recordings were originally compiled by Huw Richards, who served as the band’s sound engineer from their 1994 debut Definitely Maybe through 2001.
The auction house has confirmed that the sale of the recording has been suspended after the band issued an injunction.
Managing director Ben Homer said via RTE: "Littleton Auctions confirms that the Oasis recordings known as The Desk Tapes have been withdrawn from our October 3 auction in light of legal proceedings. We are very disappointed that we cannot offer this significant archive as planned."
The recordings were provided by Richard's son Owain Richard who confirmed that Oasis have sued him and his father to "try to prevent the auction of the tapes made by my father many years ago."
"We have agreed to postpone the auction (of the tapes) to enable the legal dispute to be resolved either by litigation or otherwise in an orderly way," Richard added.
Homer announced that the sale is "unaffected and will take place as normal."
According to RTE, the auction is still set to take place with Oasis memorabilia. The auction will include internal tour itineraries, original setlists, a band-played Epiphone guitar and an original Kangol Oasis tour Parka.
When the auction was first announced, Homer said: "The Oasis camp is aware of the auction and has expressed concerns, which is entirely understandable given the scale and significance of the material. We’re handling everything with full transparency and proper legal process. Our focus is simply on presenting these items responsibly, with verified provenance, and allowing collectors and institutions to engage with an important part of British music history."
Richards served as the front-of-house sound engineer for Oasis in the mid 1990s.
Richards captured the audio straight from the soundboard, prompting Littleton Auctions to describe the collection as "the only master archive of its kind in existence."
