Foo Fighters' Pat Smear is to sit out several of the band's upcoming shows following a "bizarre gardening accident".

Pat Smear will miss Foo Fighters' benefit shows for homeless charities, Hope the Mission and the Los Angeles Mission at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on January 14, which coincides with frontman Dave Grohl's birthday. He will also miss out on shows in Australia and Mexico next month.

Jason Faulkner, who plays guitar for St Vincent and Beck, will deputise in Smear's absence.

Taking to social media, Foo Fighters resorted to humour to explain that it seems to be the "classic tradition" of rockstars to have garden-based accidents, with Smear reportedly “smashing the s*** out of his left foot” as a way to ring into the New Year.

They said: “This means he’ll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal. We’ll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible".

Foo Fighters are to hit the UK and Europe this Summer for their 'Take Cover' tour, including two shows at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on June 25 and 27. The band will be supported by Royel Otis, IDLES, Inhaler, Fat Do, Otoboke Beaver, and Die Spitz. Find out how you can buy tickets here.

Back in October, Foo Fighters unveiled their new single, 'Asking For A Friend' as well as confirming their stadium tour. More on this here.

Last November saw Foos frontman Dave Grhol team up with  Gibson Custom to launch a new, limited-edition signed guitar, which was inspired by the Alpine White version of Grohl's iconic DG-335, which he had used at Foo Fighters' shows worldwide since 2021.

The new model includes features like a semi-hollow three-ply maple/poplar/maple body, bound diamond-shaped sound holes, a mahogany neck, carved to a standard Trini Lopez profile, bound Indian rosewood fretboard, a Firebird/Trini Lopez–style headstock and more. More on this story from Nova here.
