Paul McCartney has revealed that his upcoming solo album is to feature a collaboration with Ringo Starr.
The Beatles legend is to release his new album, 'The Boys Of Dunegeon Lane' next month (May 29), and it will be his first release since 'McCartney III' in 2020.
The album is deeply personal for McCartney, as it will look back at his time growing up in post war Liverpool with John Lennon and George Harrison. It has been described as his “most introspective album to date”.
It has now been confirmed that this album will feature the track, 'Home To Us', which will see McCartney join forces with former Beatle bandmate Starr, as well as reported contributions from Sharleen Spiteri and Chrissie Hynde.
According to McCartney, Ringo Starr's role in the song came quite late in the process.
“I saw Ringo and said I worked with this guy Andrew [Watt, producer],” he said. “Ringo came over to Andrew’s studio and played a little bit of drums".
There was also a number of misunderstandings, leading to Starr feeling a "bit p****d" with Andrew Watt, after being led to believe that his contribution was not enough. However, Paul McCartney was inspired to put this track together, focusing on his early childhood along Merseyside.
Another misunderstanding saw Starr only singing the chorus, leading McCartney to think that Ringo Starr was not too keen on the song, before the former Beatles drummer eventually added more drums and vocals, which led to the finished product which you can check out below.
News of this comes as Paul McCartney also recently shared his "must see spots" for anyone looking to visit Liverpool in the near future.
Such places mentioned by McCartney included “Forthlin Road, the house I ended up”, as well as the “Liverpool Institute, which is now LIPA”.
He also added: “I show them the site of the first gig we ever played, called the Wilson Hall in Garston. And then I show them everything in between. Where John’s mum used to live, where John used to live, where George used to live, and where Ringo lived".
In other news Ringo Starr announced a new album of his own with 'Long Long Road'.
The album, which arrives this Friday (April 24), has been written by T Bone Burnett, and Daniel Tashian, including the harmony vocals of Sarah Jarosz and Molly Tuttle, which also feature Starr. More on this story from Nova here.
