Our very own cereal messers PJ and Jim have sensationally revealed they would consider running for president – on one condition!
As the much loved Michael D Higgins steps down from the role of president after 14 years, speculation is rife as to who will take over, with everyone and anyone being asked if they’ll run for the Aras.
With sources recently indicating ‘Feet Of Flames’ dancer Michael Flatley is preparing to throw his hat in the ring, our Jim commented on yesterday’s morning show that ‘an auld celebrity candidate is never a bad thing just to keep the general interest up’ with PJ agreeing it ‘puts a bit of spice’ into the campaign.
Jim went on to share that listeners to the show had texted in putting Johnny Logan’s name out there, with one saying he recently saw the singer at Malaga Airport dressed as a cowboy ‘hats, boots, waistcoat, you name it – I’d love to see my president show up to meet diplomats dressed like that!’
When another of our listeners suggested Pat Kenny, Jim agreed he could be a great president joking ‘it would be worth it just to see his presidential addresses…”People of eye-or-laaand!”
‘Although of course you’d have to ensure there were no badgers or moles around the Aras that would upset him...’
The lads then went on to rule themselves out – unless they could bend the rules a bit…
PJ confirmed, ‘Both Jim and me are ruling out a dual-presidency and until there is a dual presidency.’
Jim agreed ‘And we are adamant in that. We will not accept the presidency until it’s a dual presidency and we’ve established what way the Áras will be split up and who gets which bits!’
As for who gets which bits, PJ decided that Jim would have to do all the awkward parties so he could just get to hang around the house all day.
However in news just in it looks like our pair of mad yolks might have some stiff competition, from none other than Dustin The Turkey, who revealed he even has Michael D’s endorsement!
In an interview with RTE the veteran bird announced ‘Of course I will be running for the presidency, I am not ruling myself out because the people of Ireland have been good to me and I should be giving back to them.’
He went on to divulge that it was Michael D himself who came up with the idea, ‘I can do stupid poems in Irish like your man, Mickey D Higgins, and funny enough, Michael D said to me, “Dustin, you should go for it and I’ll leave my wardrobe here at Áras an Uachtaráin because it is the exact same size, it will fit you”, so I can just go straight up.
This is is Dustin’s second time declaring his intention to be Ireland’s president after an unsuccessful bid for office against Mary Robinson back in 1997.
‘I ran against Mary Robinson and she was a good president but she put a light in the window and left the door open and that’s a dangerous thing to do on the north side.'
The race to the Aras is well and truly on….
