In August 2022, Ozzy Osbourne delivered what turned out to be one of his final performances on stage at the Commonwealth Games in his native Birmingham.
This performance saw Ozzy Osbourne supported by his old friend and Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Iommi, as the band performed at the closing ceremony of the games at the Alexander Stadium, treating fans to live performances of Iron Man and Paranoid.
It also marked Osbourne's first show in four years, having battled a series of health issues.
Following this show, the late Ozzy had revealed that his wife Sharon Osbourne had informed him watching him perform live on stage had reduced Queen guitarist Brian May to tears.
"Later, as we were getting into the limo-van that was taking us to the airport, Sharon told me Brian May of Queen had posted on Instagram that he was in tears watching the performance," he revealed. "I’d shed a few tears myself as all those fireworks went off. Tony probably had too, but he was wearing his shades, so you couldn’t tell. It was totally, utterly overwhelming".
"There are no words that could do any justice to what it felt like being up there. I was home. I’d made it. All the shit I’d been through in the last few years… it just melted away. I just wished we’d done more songs. We were on such a roll up there, we could have done half a set".
News of this comes as the Birmingham Airport CEO, Nick Barton insisted that they will not changing its name to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away back in July. More on this story from Nova here.
