Robert Smith has announced that the Cure are currently working on a new album.

Taking to Twitter last Friday (February 4), the band’s lead singer and chief songwriter has said that the Cure will perform new tracks from the album next time they play.

“We will be performing songs from a new album when we next play…or we won’t be playing at all! And I really want to play…so that means…”, Smith said.

Could This Be The Cure’s Final Album?

Last Summer, Robert Smith had hinted that the next album emanating from the Cure could be their last.

Having previously stated that the band had two albums ready to release, Smith told the Sunday Times that the next material could be the last dance for the Cure.

“The new Cure stuff is very emotional”, Smith told the publication.

“It’s 10 years of life distilled into a couple of hours of intense stuff”, he continued. “And I can’t think we’ll ever do anything else. I definitely can’t do this again”.

Smith had made a similar revelation back in 2019. “I think that every album we do is the last Cure album. It may well be, but if there’s another bunch of good songs then there’s no reason not to follow it up”.

Last year also saw bassist Simon Gallup depart the band, having previously called his relationship with Robert Smith the most treacherous combination within the band “without question”.

“With a slightly heavy heart I am no longer a member of the Cure!”, he wrote on his official Facebook account. “Good luck to them all …”.

Gallup also had this to add when asked if he was happy with this decision. “Im ok Vicky ..just got fed up of betrayal”.
