Tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup which were available to Irish fans, sold out in under one hour of going on sale.

Speaking about this, the European Tour Group's Chief Ryder Cup Officer, said the demand for tickets from Irish fans was "unprecedented".

"We know that Irish golf fans are amongst the most enthusiastic in the world and this is yet another reminder of that," Richard Atkinson said. "We also look forward to the start of June when, in addition to Irish residents getting a second chance, fans from around the world will get their opportunity to be part of this great sporting occasion".

This comes after a limited number of daily tickets were made available for Irish residents for the three match days, costing €499 per daily ticket on Friday (April 24).

Fans were also able to access practice daily tickets, as well as weekly tickets, which all sold out within four hours.

Over 150,000 people from Ireland had pre registered for early access to tickets. A number of these tickets were available on a first come first served basis from 11am. It was also reported that at least 60,000 people in Ireland had been queuing online to buy tickets.

As far as iconic sporting events go, the Ryder Cup is among the best, including The FIFA World Cup, the Super Bowl, Wimbledon and The Olympic Games to name a few.

"unprecedented"

However, it was not all plain sailing as some reported encountering technical issues in this process. Some issues included the website crashing and fans being booted out of the system once they reached the top of the queue.

Following this, a message from organisers to fans queueing on the website had acknowledged that the site was "experiencing technical difficulties", and they were working to solve this problem.

"We are aware of a handful of individual user issues but there are no widespread technical problems with today's sale", a spokesperson for Ryder Cup Europe said.

"Indeed, tickets have been selling at anticipated levels given Irish fans' renowned enthusiasm for golf and the Ryder Cup".

The 2027 Ryder Cup, takes place at Adare Manor in Co Limerick from September 17-19 next year
