Sting is being sued by his former Police bandmates over lost royalties, according to reports.
Former frontman for the band, Sting is being sued for "substantial" damages by guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland, which follows on from years of legal rows between the group. The case is being listed at the High Court in London under “general commercial contracts and arrangements”.
Reports have suggested that this legal dispute between the former bandmates "has been coming for quite some time", while stating: “Lawyers tried repeatedly to reach an out-of-court settlement but hit a stalemate".
“Andy and Stewart decided there was no alternative than court so pressed the button. They say they are owed millions in lost royalties".
In the case, Sting is listed as a defendant along with his company Magnetic Publishing Limited.
According to reports, Sting earns £550,000 per year in royalties from the Police's hit, 'Every Breath You Take' along. The track which featured on their fifth and final album, 'Sychronicity', was their best selling sing of 1983.
A spokesperson for Sting has denied that the legal action was related to 'Every Breath You Take', but they did not elaborate on the case.
Having been founded back in 1977, the Police eventually broke up in the mid 1980s. Since then, they reunited on several occasions in the past, with their most recent shows taking place in 2008, a reunion which Sting once admitted that he regrets. Find out more on this here.
Back in July, Sting was forced to cancel a show in Italy due to severe weather conditions. More on this from Nova here.
