Queen's Roger Taylor has revealed that he and bandmate Brian May have been discussing new possibilities for the band, including a new avatar Voyage show inspired by ABBA.
Taylor was speaking about this in an interview on Virgin Radio's Chris Evans' Breakfast Show, where he said that he and May “talk because we live near each other” and admitted there’s “a possibility of doing something”, noting how the rapid change in technology over the years.
This avatar show could see the band reintroduce late frontman Freddie Mercury on stage in a new, modern and innovative way, with Chris suggesting that the idea was like “going on tour with Freddie”.
But Roger Taylor did insist that Freddie Mercury could not be replaced, while acknowledging that avatar-style performances are "sort of" in a similar bracket.
It would appear that Roger Taylor has changed his tune literally, having previously said that he was not so keen on the idea of a hologram show for Queen. While he said he "enjoyed" the ABBA show, he was not convinced by their projections, but believes technology has advanced hugely since ABBA's return in 2022.
“I didn’t find the actual projections that convincing", he said. “I do think technology now has come so much further since the ABBA show started, I think a lot more can be done".
Last year, Queen guitarist, Brian May had said that he would be open to the idea of an ABBA style Voyage show for Queen in the future.
On the possibility of "reuniting" with the former bandmates with a hologram show, Brian May told the Big Issue: “Freddie is still alive through the music that we listen to all the time. In a sense, John is still with us in the same way, but now we have so many other opportunities".
He added: “I mean things that are immersive, like The Sphere in Las Vegas, it will be possible to give people the experience very closely of what things were like for us when we were Freddie, John, Brian and Roger. And that really appeals to me".
