Season 5, Volume 2 was released to Netflix on St. Stephen's day for Irish fans. Volume 1 left us with a climatic cliff hanger as Will had discovered he had superpowers, so fans were eagerly waiting for new episodes to see how this would play out. However we were given three episodes of resolution and confessions rather than shock factor and action.
Still, the last episode of Volume two is rated as their worst episode yet. According to IMDb, the latest episode titled 'The Bridge" has become the lowest rated episode in Stranger Things history. It currently has a 5.8 out of 10 rating from 47,000 reviews, before this episode was "The Sister" which scored a 6/10.
Both of these episodes feature Eleven's sister Kali/Eight who has made themselves a controversial character amongst fans. Perhaps due to her vengeful character she is seen as untrustworthy, or as her characters purpose still remains unclear as she was introduced in season 2 then merely forgotten about until this season.
The series as a whole has been struggling for fan support. It currently has 67 per cent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a sharp decline from it's previous 89 per cent after the release of season 4.
As the final episode of the series approaches fans like myself worry for the final outcome. There seems to be so much that need to be resolved before we say goodbye. They need to defeat Vecna, save the children, save the world, stop the evil scientists and create a satisfying ending for each of the 17 characters that we have been following for the past decade. I also won't forget the mindflayer which needs an explanation before the series wraps. However I have faith in the Duffers as they have kept me hooked on the series for almost ten years.
Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) expressed his worries going into the final season, however he said: “Honestly, the way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen'. But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.”
Although there is still hope as Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) said in an interview to promote the new season that "we feel confident in the work we did," when asked about fans worries for the finale.
The two hour final episode will be released on Netflix on the 31st of December (Wednesday).
